agent description: mumps virus is a member of the paramyxoviridae family. there is only one serotype. the virion is pleomorphic with a roughly spherical spherical shape and a diameter of 85 to 300 um.

bioar performs quality control tests to ensure each batch meets in-horse specification. it is important that each user perform titrations of antigen using their own assay as each assay format and serum release makes different performance demands on the antigen.
test:
titre: this antigen preparation is titrated using a microtitre plate based elisa. antigens are tested for reactivity with igg. the dilution of antigen which generates a singal of 1.0 o.d unit in the immunoassay is compared to that of the standard approved antigen. the result of this comparison is expressed as a percentage of the reference.
igg result: 192.1%
protein concentration: protein is determined using the dye binding assay in the microassay format. the standard curve is generated with a known concentration of igg.
rusult: 2.24 mg/ml
inativation assay: the effectiveness of inactivation is tested by inoculating a bsc-1 monlayer with antigen. the culture is manipulated using the original optional culture conditions used to manufacture the antigen.
